I cut away the torn part and made two same-sized rectangles which I then tacked together and added a piece of gingham as a border and to cover the raw edges.

This worked okay, although it was messy to work with, the frayed bits of towel coming away from the edges and was about as thick as my sewing machine can handle. The colours are a bit early nineties so it doesn't exactly match my current bathroom. Other than that, it does the job as a bath mat quite well.

Wonderful idea, Joanne! I will definitely have to use that one :) I just fixed my sewing maching- it's been broken almost the whole summer and just never took the time out to fix it.
And by the way, if you were only one week behind, you're doing pretty good :) I haven't read anyone's blogs all summer!
